How to Bring Your Thoughts in Alignment with God and His Word

If you don’t align your thoughts with Jesus, you will start thinking contrary to the Word of God.

Your thoughts and words are powerful.

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he …

Proverbs 23:7a NKJV

How forceful are right words! …

Job 6:25a NKJV

God is not pleased when we don’t live by faith.

Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.

Hebrews 10:38 NKJV

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Hebrews 11:1 NKJV

A generation of Israelites started well in faith but they drew back

And Aaron spoke all the words which the LORD had spoken to Moses. Then he did the signs in the sight of the people.

So the people believed; …

Exodus 4:30-31 NKJV

But when they saw and/or heard of the giants, they drew back.

…We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we …

and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.

Numbers 13:31-33 NKJV

These people failed to possess the land because:

They degraded their confidence in the Word of God below their fear.

Goliath, the giant, taunted the Israelite soldiers and made them afraid. These were trained men but when Goliath came out they fled.

When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid.

And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him and were dreadfully afraid.

I Samuel 17:11, 24 NKJV

Things will come towards you but being dreadfully afraid is not for you. *

1. Fear not!

… For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

II Timothy 1:7 NKJV

Negative thoughts should be countered with the Word. God wants your mind to become sound. He wants your mind to believe in Him.

You are justified by faith. You should not fear or flee. Be bold!

The wicked flee when no one pursues, But the righteous are bold as a lion.

Proverbs 28:1 NKJV

2. Cast down arguments

Saul spoke negatively about David. The negative thought enters your mind to make you tremble.

casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,

II Corinthians 10:5 NKJV

The purpose of these arguments is to downgrade the Word of God, His deliverance, His healing … in your head.

And Saul said to David, You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.

But David said to Saul, Your servant used to keep his father’ s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; … and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.

Moreover David said, The LORD, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said to David, Go, and the LORD be with you!

I Samuel 17:33-37 NKJV

David gave the honour to God who delivered me… will deliver me. He didn’t entertain the negative assessment by Saul. Don’t entertain thoughts that are contrary to the Word of God.

3. Renew your mind according to the Word of God.

So the Philistine said to David, Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!

Then David said to the Philistine, You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. …

I Samuel 17:43-47 NKJV

Everything David said was about what God would do.

To renew your mind, you need to read the Word of God.

4. Let the mind that was in Christ be in you.

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,

Philippians 2:5 NKJV

5. Your thoughts shall be established.

Commit your works to the LORD, And your thoughts will be established.

Proverbs 16:3 NKJV

_Thoughts are like birds. You cannot stop them from flying over you but you shouldn’t allow them make a nest over you.
